Something that brings me joy as a 2nd grade teacher is to decorate my classroom door each month. And for the month of March, I love St Patricks Day classroom door decorations. When I use my students’ names in the display, it can help build a positive community with our class. I like how when I display my students’ work, it helps motivate the kids to do their best. They want their work to be beautiful since it is hanging up on the door for everyone to see. So today I’m sharing the St Patricks Day classroom door ideas you and your students will love.

St Patricks Classroom Door

The month of March can feel long in the classroom. There’s no days off or holidays. Plus I feel like a lot of sickness goes around. So I like to bring in a little more joy into the month by putting up St Patricks Classroom Door decorations.

I like to help my students show gratitude and positive thinking. So I like to use that with a St. Patrick’s Day theme. I put up a sign that says, “We’re lucky to be in second grade.” It helps remind me and my students that no matter what is going on, we can be grateful for our class family.

The sign is really fun because it has a four-leaf clover that has a shiny rainbow pattern. It is very eye-catching!

To make it even more colorful, I added a banner with a cute pattern underneath the sign. It really ties in all the bright colors.

I decorate the rest of the door with different colors of four-leaf clovers that have my students’ names on them.

When students see this St Patricks Day Classroom door display for the first time, they love searching through the four-leaf clovers and finding their names. It helps remind students that they are a part of our classroom. That our class would be so different without them. Students feel that they are special enough to have their name on our classroom door. This helps build a positive classroom community.

You can create variations of this. Instead of a sign that says, “Lucky to be in second grade” I have signs for each grade up through 6th grade. If you don’t want to do the sign, you can print out the letters to “We are lucky!” and cut them out to hang up. This would also look really great if you decide to use this idea as a bulletin board display. The letters will really stand out. Find the printable letters to “We are lucky!’ here.

Get students more involved by turning this into a little writing project. First, brainstorm why it is important to show gratitude. You can read different picture books that teach this lesson too. Then have students brainstorm things they are grateful for or things that make them “lucky.” List these ideas up on the whiteboard for students to see.

Then have them complete the writing project. Students finish the sentence with “I am lucky because…” I like to challenge students by picking three things and have them list them using commas.

After students finish their sentence, they color the four-leaf clover or the rainbow on the paper. Then they cut their paper out on the border. I like to make these look a little more fancy by putting a green border around them with green construction paper. When you hang them up on the door or bulletin board it makes them look really nice. Find this writing project here.

I hope these St Patricks Day classroom door ideas have helped you see how you can make things simple yet fun for yourself and your students in the month of March. There are many ways you can use these St Patrick’s classroom door decorations. Simply put your students’ names on the four-leaf clover circles or have them complete a little writing project.
