October is my absolute favorite month of school. Students are settled into the routine of things. Your instruction is finally running smoothly. So I can finally get around to some fun activities with my students. I love to celebrate the month of October in a fun way with easy Halloween classroom door decorations.

Easy Halloween Classroom Door Decorations

At the beginning of the month, I hang up classroom door decorations for October. I do this by hanging up a simple sign that says “Welcome to Our Patch.” Then I print out cute pumpkins, type my students’ names on them, and cut them out. I tape these up all around the sign. I even add in a fun banner underneath the sign. This adds in a little more color.

These are easy Halloween classroom door decorations that my 2nd grade students love.

I love when students see these October classroom door decorations for the first time. Their faces light up when they see the pumpkin with their name. It helps them feel like they are an important part of our classroom. They also love how it helps us celebrate the month of October and Halloween. Students think it is so much fun even when you do something simple. Find these decorations to use in your classroom here.

But I have some other ways you can make these easy Halloween classroom door decorations more interactive for students.

One easy way to make this more interactive for students is to print the pumpkins off so they are black and white. They still have students’ names printed out on them, but then students get to decorate their pumpkin however they would like. You could have them use crayons, color pencils, or markers. Watercolors would be a lot of fun for students to use as well. It’s so great to see students get creative when they decorate these.

These October classroom door decorations are so fun when you add in students’ names.

And did you know… These easy Halloween door decorations also make a great October bulletin board?

You can still hang up the sign that says “Welcome to Our Patch” or you can use bulletin board letters. Then you can hang up the student pumpkins but you can also add in another piece. You can have students write a mini poem about pumpkins.

For this poem, I first read a couple books about pumpkins. One of my favorites is “Spookley the Square Pumpkin.” Then I either bring in a pumpkin or display a picture of a pumpkin. Next, I help students brainstorm some describing words for pumpkins. They may come up with words like orange, round, smooth, and fat. I record their responses on the whiteboard.

Then have them write a sentence using these words. I have my students write this on a nice paper that says, “Pumpkin, pumpkin” on the top. I glue a border paper on the back and then put this up on the bulletin board as well.

Have students write a small poem for these October Door Decorations.

I love how this gets students a little more involved and it showcases student work in a cute way. This makes a great October bulletin board for inside the classroom or in the hallway. Find all these bulletin board materials here.

But here’s the thing, you don’t have to just decorate your classroom door for the month of October. I like to celebrate each month of the school year with fun classroom door decorations.

For me, it’s a fun way to break up the school year. It brings joy to both me and my students. We have a fall leaf themed door display for November. And a fun Christmas light themed one for December.

Each one features my students’ names. They all have a similar look because they include a sign and a banner. Find these classroom door decorations for the entire school year in a money-saving bundle here.

Another fun October bulletin board idea is to display an October themed math craft that your students have made. As a fun Halloween math activity, I have my students make a spider. On the legs are math facts, students solve those, fold the legs accordion style, and then glue them to the spider’s body.
